Volunteering in “Open Space Foundation” – Helena Podra – 2 months short-term volunteering in Bulgaria

I participated in a volunteering project in Petrich, Bulgaria for about 6 weeks.
We had 2 different places where we stayed. One was in Kungur hut and the other one was in Belasitsa hut. Even though Kungur accommodation wasn't that good. It was an eye-opening experience how people live up in the mountains and how they manage their life with the cold weather.

Our tasks were a bit different depending on where we were staying. But the main task was cleaning the mountain roads for hikers and cars.
The most fun activity was painting the old cars in Kungur. And we had a artist with us who did some cool designs. So it came out pretty cool. And got to learn some cool wood crafting from her.

I did have some bad experience during the project. Since Bulgaria still has some of the old fashion way of thinking. And I didn't like when they asked me help with cooking. But then later on they still did it on their own and I wasn't needed. Overall this opportunity taught me a lot.

But I still appreciate Pepe (hosting org) for always asking how we are doing , if we needed help with something or if something was wrong.
Open Space Foundation does a lot of projects with/for children/teens. So I recommend volunteering with this organisation.
